'training' on the 'raj'

yup- my favorite train and route- the mumbai-delhi rajdhani...accompanied by my gangsters pranay, olga and eva...this is me chillin way past my bedtime on my lappie in the train. The AC was blasting, 'superman' by the stereophonics played on the headphones and generally- this ride is bliss....the new german steel grey and red coaches are jazzy looking and this train ride is as speedy as it is smooth...good fun...

arivederci, sayonara, later, adios, alvida...*sigh*

I say goodbye tonight, to the city of vada pavs, bandra, awesome metros, andheri station, vikhroli station, dadar and not to mention my favorite- VT. I say goodbye to the nimbu pani guy at VT, the hot chocolate guy that stood two stalls next to him, kolaba- gokuls, mondy's , bade miyan, the taj , gateway of india...i say goodbye to pecoes, ghettos, polly's , hawaiin shack and 'just around the corner'...i say goodbye to powai and that little nepali dude who i still call 'nutan' despite knowing that the little restaurant that serves the best aloo cheese paranthas goes by that name. I say goodbye to godrej hillside colony and ghatkopar- geneva and a million other locations will come my way- but these 2 tiny suburbs is where my heart lost , and i will now and forever give in to true nostalgia.
i say goodbye to the fact that delhi is my favorite city- mumbai has officially taken over, and i feel it now more than ever.
I say goodbye to the cricket ground of vikhroli and the sounds of sam still shouting 'greaaaaat yaar' and amit screaming ' sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee'..i can still see us playing at 4 oclock in the morning with kartik in his verbose brilliance convincing the guards to let us play another 6 hours....where are u KS?

I say goodbye to the city of true happiness- with no attitude and no bullshit- a city of class, and class difference; a city of style and stylish exuberance, a city of athena and provogue lounge , and a city of a million fruit vala stands, a city of the best juice stands and hadji ali....

I say goodbye to my most loved part of mumbai- the corner of not just jazz, with pizzeria next to it and baskin robbins across it, i say goodbye to marine plaza and the most delicious midnight buffets accompanied by inane conversations and drunken withdrawals...i say goodbye to the most awesome corporate working atmosphere i have ever seen.
I say good bye to the city that i 'grew up in'....and to the greatest friends i ever made....

agra beckons now...and the world begins to set foot on the new-land of the future. IC creeps nearer- and the earth thunders with the sound of the global village in our backyard.
'say goodbye'- madonna...

song of the week!

oh man oh man oh man! this is the most kickass combination any music fan could hope for - 'ghetto gospel' by the late and great Tupac featuring Sir Elton John....

'Those who wish to follow me
I welcome with my hands
And the red sun sinks to last into the hills of gold
and peace to this young warrior
without the sound of guns'

(now thats what i call lyrics- cos it dares to be strong and courageous without glorifying the 'steel' ) ! DC salutes...

a note linked to a memory

its crazy....sitting in the enjoyable confines of the godrej congress committee office recently, I was treated to a wave of the most amazing nostalgia by a colleague (a die hard metal head) who insisted on blasting the office with some of his progressive rock, followed by power core death metal. For those who arent connoisseurs of this particular brand of music..stick with me..theres a point to this.
'The Sound of perseverance' - an unbelievable thrash out death album (ironically the name of the band is Death as well) reminded me of those days when id come back from school in the killing heat of delhi, wind out, chug 4 glasses of 'nimbu pani' (lemon juice) and rush upstairs to change, yet more importantly press play on the cd player that would unleash 'to forgive is to suffer' and 'painkiller' to the house and its members. The angst, the vocals, the lyrics , the melodies - the pure unadulterated thrill of head banging in a small room of 'Kirti' apartments with neighbours screaming their lungs out ...damn...what memories.
those days are gone- half the fun of that music at that time was the 'release', somehow replaced by a more calm collected mature state that we grow into. Wierdly enough though, ive spent the last 2 days revisiting this album and many more from artists like kreator, digging up my collection of sepultura and black sabbath covers-not to mention some of my favorites like 'carcass'. It's not an immaturity or quarter life crisis, just an amazing feeling remembering an immortality drawn from music...and its power thereof.
I urge the masses to re-create old memories from school/college through audio/visual images; and I have an intense urge to (at some point of time) conduct a scientific study of how this could be a useful 'tool' for psychologists and shrinks worldwide to tackle midlife and quarter life crises. Think about it....depression in these situations sets in whilst viewing flasbacks from the past in morose, dull settings; but what if these same settings could be moulded to incorporate today's advances in technology...recreate 3d images, sounds and project actuals....man seems to lose his belief in immortality through age, amazingly enough- age is the road to fear.
Enough said:)...I'm heading back to one of my favorite tracks from the album - flesh and the power it holds (need I say more:))

drop by drop gonna fill the ocean

the 'ocean' here signifying my unending desire to learn a new language - and that desire for linguistic mastery exists for none other than el spanisho :) (thats incorrect I know- all the more reason for me to learn). I hence am going to learn one new word a day - through my thingamajig in the right hand bar of van chitgough...for those secretly tapping into this 'enormous' resource tool- i will take a cut...later on in your spanish speaking lives...
