question
Readers and friends of the Van Chitgough blog - an Indian friend of mine is going to the UK to study for a year and intends to travel around Europe before and after the academic year. He was curious to know which 'International Youth cards/memberships' he should sign up for? I remember an International youth travel card that got me some bad ass deals in '05-06.
Any suggestions? Hit me at dhruv(dot)chitgo(at)gmail(dot)com or just respond in the comments section of the post. Cheers.

if he's a student he should get ISIC (http://www.isic.org/), or if he's not, but below 26 he can get Euro<26 (www.euro26.org), although not sure whether they have the same coverage as ISIC, since it's on a "membership" base, not general student discounts.
hope this helps :)

DC - ISIC is definitely good, as generally you just need a Identity card saying you are a student. Otherwise he needs a card which has both birthdate and picture - especially if he looks young and wants to enter a bar/club.
If he wants to travel - then he should get the International Youth Hostel thing. He should get some discounts from it.

ISIC is definitely the way to go since he's going to be studying.
There are two others...
Intl Teachers' ID Card and the Intl Youth Travel Card...

Btw.. all three are completely useless around Asia. :(
